Hand Hygiene

You may have seen the information sheet recently sent home by the Parent Assocation, relating to hand hygiene within Scoil Bhríde.
Did you know nearly 2 million school days are lost annually in Ireland due to the common cold? The Centre for Disease Control (CDC) reports that addressing the spread of germs in schools is essential to the health of our youth and our schools.
Hand hygiene is the single most important way of reducing infection and preventing its spread.
With this in mind, Scoil Bhríde are currently working through a hand hygiene programme. All pupils are participating in demonstrations of correct hand washing techniques, and are being educated in the importance of correct hand washing.
To facilitate the programme we have enlisted the help of our local infection control nurse and other parents working in the Health sector.
Best practice stipulates all the children should have their own personal hand towel. Therefore, we are asking you to provide your child with a clean hand towel or face cloth each day from now on. This towel should be placed in a zip-lock bag and within your child’s school bag.
The school will continue to provide shared towels, however, if we are to implement this programme effectively we need everyone’s co-operation and support.
Thank you.
